Forgive me while I do a victory dance.
This is the first time my candidate has actually been elected, in all the time I’ve been able to vote. Third time’s the charm, right? It’s also the first time I’ve donated to a campaign, participated in bake sales, and done more than simply wish that Bush wasn’t so.
I couldn’t be more thrilled.

I am so excited for you as well as the rest of the country.
Oh what a happy day today has been : )
Yes, the nightmare is soon over. We’ll have much work to do still, but this feels SO nice.
jenn– thanks!
i’m still pinching myself. it’s not a dream, right?
rachael — no kidding!
dad — yes, definitely. it’s nice to know that our votes count. he sent this before he went out to give the speech (ok, it may not have been him actually sending it then, but you know; it still made me happy):
“Elizabeth —
I’m about to head to Grant Park to talk to everyone gathered there, but I wanted to write to you first.
We just made history.
And I don’t want you to forget how we did it.
You made history every single day during this campaign — every day you knocked on doors, made a donation, or talked to your family, friends, and neighbors about why you believe it’s time for change.
I want to thank all of you who gave your time, talent, and passion to this campaign.
We have a lot of work to do to get our country back on track, and I’ll be in touch soon about what comes next.
But I want to be very clear about one thing…
All of this happened because of you.
Thank you,
Barack ”
It looks like he’ll be asking his supporters to actually get involved in some of that work. I’m actually kind of excited about it, even if I know we have a long slog ahead…
Liz — that’s very interesting… we spent the whole intermission with bated breath (is that the right phrase? I think so
) wondering why it took so long… wonder if there were some last minute changes to his speech or expectations of how he might get the public involved…
No kidding — I was on overnight last night and sped (oops) to the lab so I wouldn’t miss the speech. I thought he would come out earlier. And then I got the email… I have to admit, I kind of like the idea that he did write it then. But you never know… I’m guessing we’ll find out a little bit about his plans soon enough?
